Falkirk Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of our new coaching team: Eddie May, Steven Pressley and Alex Smith.
The Club is also announcing a new football management structure which separates out the responsibilities for the first team from the Academy and other football functions. Eddie May has been appointed Head Coach and will be assisted by Steven Pressley and Alex Smith. The appointment of Eddie May, our former Head of Academy, reflects the importance the Club places on continuity of management and on the development of young players at Falkirk Football Club. Eddie May’s success with the Falkirk Academy was recently recognised when no fewer than 5 Falkirk players featured in the Scotland Under 21 squad. Over the last three years over 20 Academy players have been capped at various age levels. The Under 19 team has also performed well in the Under 19 league and cup competitions. Steven Pressley brings to his new role a wealth of experience not only on the playing side but also more recently through his involvement with the Scottish national team as assistant coach. Alex Smith will provide the knowledge and experience which will be invaluable to Eddie and Steven as they embark on their managerial careers. The Club is also announcing a new management structure where Eddie May, as Head Coach, has full responsibility for the first team squad, and a new position of Head of Football Development (yet to be appointed) is created to oversee academy, medical, performance and recruitment functions. Both positions report to Managing Director, George Craig. Martin Ritchie, the new Falkirk chairman, said “Over the last 5 years, Eddie has been a key member of the football management team at Falkirk. He has achieved considerable success with our Academy producing some of Scotland’s best young talent. His approach is very much attuned to the Club’s focus on bringing through our young players, and on providing a football management structure to best support development of football here. The new football management structure we are proposing is already proven in many parts of Europe and we believe can serve Falkirk well. ” “I believe that Eddie, Steven and Alex will bring us the blend of enthusiasm, professionalism and experience which will be required to consolidate our position as a successful SPL club” Falkirk's New Management Team from L-R
