Falkirk FC Chairman Margaret Lang hosted 11 War Widows for a special Afternoon Tea in the Stadium’s Boardroom to mark the centenary of the First World War and support the Armed Forces, Poppy Scotland and Legion Scotland’s Thank You campaign last week.

The 2018 Thank You campaign recognises all those who lived through the War and shaped the world we live in today. Falkirk Football Club has joined the campaign and committed to stage 11 events in acknowledgement of the 1.1 million service men and women who gave their lives in WW1.

Margaret Lang, chairwoman of Falkirk Football Club, said: “It is an honour to welcome the War Widow’s Association to Falkirk Stadium, we are committed to not only raising awareness, but supporting, the thank you campaign with 11 special events to mark the centenary of WW1.

“This is such an important initiative and part of our long standing vision to support the Armed Forces, Poppy Scotland and Legion Scotland, we cannot ever forget the service men and women who sacrificed their lives and changed our world. We have been campaigning for a number of years now and look forward to further supporting the Thank You campaign throughout 2018.”

Commenting on the partnership, Moira Kane, Honorary Secretary War Widows, said: “The ladies from the War Widow’s Association are delighted to be able to strengthen the ties with Falkirk Football Club by attending lunch on Wednesday. We are honoured to be invited and would like to thank everyone involved for including us.”

Charles Brown, national chairman Royal British Legion Scotland, added: “It is wonderful that we are able to further strengthen our relationship with our friends at Falkirk Football Club who have done so much for the Armed Forces and Veterans Community in the Falkirk area over the past years. My sincere thanks go to the Chairman of Falkirk FC and the club for their kind generosity and I along with my colleagues at Legion Scotland look forward to working with them in the coming months.”
