Bairns legend Alex Totten spoke ahead of the second ever Steak Pie and Speakers night, taking place in the Millennium Suite of the Beancross Hotel on Friday the 31st of May. He began by discussing last year’s event.

“Last year was brilliant, we had excellent food and speakers at the right price, it was a very good combination and it proved to be very popular so we’re doing it again this year.”

This year’s speakers are Alex himself, Celtic legend Murdo Macleod, and Rangers legend Willie Henderson. Alex spoke on the speakers this year.

“Owen Coyle and Jim Leishman were a great duo last year, they had a great chemistry, but I’m sure Willie and Murdo will be just as good. I’m good friends with the two of them and I know it will be another good night”

“I played against Willie a couple of times back in the day, it was never a good experience! Jimmy Johnstone would go past you and come back and do it again, Willie would go past you and then you’d never see him again. I didn’t play against Murdo, but I’ll never forget the game when I was at Rangers. He picked up the ball and buried it from about 30 yards out, the game finished 4-4 which is unbelievable for an old firm game.”

Alex finished by talking about his hopes for this year’s event, priced at £30pp plus vat.

“I do the Sportsman’s Dinner, which is a great night, but this just gives something different. It’s an excellent night, it’s smart casual so the dress code isn’t too strict and people can come in what they’re comfortable in. The banter with the boys is great and I really hope everyone has a fantastic night. At £36 a night I think the pricing is dead on, that includes the speakers plus a brilliant meal, the Beancross is a great venue for this kind of thing.”
