Football Memories was the first reminiscence programme based on Football which was designed to help older football supporters who were lonely, socially isolated or living with memory problems and other long-term conditions. It started here in the Falkirk area and has now spread far and wide, with groups in Holland, America, Spain, and Brazil- all based on the Falkirk model.
During Lockdown, it is not possible for groups to meet in person, so the volunteers have decided to replicate the old Saturday Night football papers and issue a weekly “Football Special.” Falkirk F.C. have supported the project since its origins in 2009 and have staged a specially themed reminiscence day when the players wore T-shirts in the warm-up showing the club’s support for the Football Memories Project and Alzheimer Scotland.
The club is delighted to support the work they are doing and will be including the Specials during lockdown. Please, if you can, share the quiz-type newsletter with older supporters, friends, family members and neighbours who might not have access to a computer.
