A newly published book ‘Bairns Abroad’ sheds light on Falkirk’s first overseas tour.
‘Bairns Abroad’ tells the story of the four-week tour to Israel and Malta in the summer of 1953 when a nineteen strong party of players and officials representing Falkirk FC set out on the club’s first overseas tour. The four-week tour to Israel and Malta is without doubt one of the least known, but most successful, episodes in the history of the club and the story of the tour is told for the first time by drawing on club papers, contemporary press reports and player diaries. Included is the discovery of a previously unrecorded match played by Falkirk, the mystery of the ‘sixteenth player’ as well as the memories of the last known surviving player linked to the tour. Illustrated by some never before seen photographs the book will appeal to Bairns fans of all ages and, by shining a light on the tour, will ensure those who took part belatedly receive the recognition and credit they fully deserve.
All profits from the book will go to the Falkirk Football Heritage Trust.
The book is available from the club shop priced at £10.
