NEXT UP: PARTICK THISTLE
Kick off is at 7:45pm, Friday 23rd September.
Falkirk versus Partick Thistle is a fixture that has occurred 221 times over the course of both teams’ existence. Partick have the edge in terms of wins with 91 but most of the games played between the two are hard-fought and close run contests.
It’s been almost a year and a half since our last encounter with Partick Thistle, who return to The Falkirk Stadium for the first time since their promotion to the Championship, and it was a match that Falkirk fans would happily forget as Partick ran out five-nil winners to secure the Scottish League One title.
Prior to that match, the previous five fixtures ended in draws, with nothing separating the teams for two years.
Ian McCall’s team currently sit atop the Championship after seven games having only lost once and are unbeaten in five in all competitions. Big wins against Arbroath, Raith Rovers and Inverness in recent weeks see them leapfrog Ayr United on goal difference after they suffered their first defeat in the league this season away to Raith Rovers.
The Bairns returned from their break in play to their first Dunfermline Derby Day with fans in over three years, looking for a reaction following their defeat to Kelty Hearts two weeks prior. John McGlynn’s side went a goal up in a dominant first half performance but it wasn’t enough to secure all three points. The game finished a one-all draw after a Kyle Benedictus penalty rescued a point for The Pars.
The result leaves Falkirk sixth in the league standings, just four points behind leaders Dunfermline.
