NEXT UP: ANNAN ATHLETIC (H)
Falkirk prepare for their first league game of the season as we welcome League 1 newcomers Annan Athletic to The Falkirk Stadium.
The two teams have played each other just once since records began, meeting in the semi-final of the Ramsden’s Challenge Cup in 2011. The Bairns progressed to the final following a 3-0 victory over Annan with a brace from fan favourite Farid El Alagui and a goal from Mark Millar sealing the win.
Annan Athletic earned promotion from SPFL cinch League 2 last season after winning the cinch League 1 play-offs. The Galabankies finished third in League 2 but saw off Dumbarton in the play-off semi-finals before getting the better of Clyde in the final, condemning The Bully Wee to relegation. League 1 is the highest Annan Athletic have ever found themselves in the SPFL and will be looking to secure a win from their first ever game in the division.
If Falkirk want to dash Annan’s hopes of a dream start to their time in League 1, a good starting point will be to keep the opponent’s star man quiet. Tommy Goss was the main man for Annan last season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals.
Falkirk will be looking to kick their league campaign off with a win at home with a view to going one step further than last season and gaining automatic promotion to the cinch Championship. Despite not making it through to the knockout stages of the Viaplay Cup, The Bairns showed promise in their pre-season outings and are aiming to carry their form into the league.
