Falkirk FC is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Michael McKenna on a one-year deal.

Michael joins the Bairns following the culmination of his Arbroath contract. The 33-year-old spent seven years at Gayfield, a stint that saw him make 209 appearances and gain promotion with the Red Lichties from League 1 to the Championship.

The 2021/22 season was a standout one for the attacking midfielder picking up the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award and finishing the season as the Championship top scorer as Arbroath secured second spot in the league.

He becomes John McGlynn’s first Summer signing.

John McGlynn said of securing Michael:

“Michael is a player I’ve known for some time, he’ a player I signed for Livingston back in 2013 and he did very well there. More recently he’s been at Arbroath who he won League 1 with and spent five years in the Championship, picking up Player of the Year two years ago, and was very unfortunate not to get to the Premiership with that Dick Campbell team that was amazing that year.

“He’s an attacking midfield player who can play in a number of positions, even as a striker, which is an advantage. He’s a very good footballer, he’s a great character who’ll blend into the changing room very well, and he knows a number of players who are here already. He brings experience but still has a number of good years ahead of him. He’s a great addition to what we have already and we look forward to working with him.
