Falkirk FC is delighted to announce that Sean Mackie has signed a contract extension.

The 25-year-old has signed a new one-year deal that will keep him at The Falkirk Stadium until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Sean joined Falkirk at the start of the 2022/23 season and played 31 times in his first season at the club. The defender has made a further 19 appearances this season, getting four assists across the campaign.

Sean becomes the 10th player from our invincible 2023/24 season to sign an extension.

John McGlynn commented on Sean’s new deal:

“Sean has been at the club two years now, this season he started the in the first league cup tie, started the next game against Partick, and then picked up quite a bad hamstring injury which meant he missed the next 12 games.

“By that time the team was up and running, and you’re not going to change the defence when it’s doing so well, and Sean found it difficult to get back in the team. There came a spell after the turn of the year where we started to do a bit of rotation and Sean got himself back in and ended up starting nine out of the last ten games.

“In that period, he impressed us enough that he felt he deserved to be offered a contract as he took the opportunity very well in that period of time. He slotted in at left centre back as well as in his natural position at left back, and when we’re looking forward to next season, we always need players who have that versatility in them. Leon is signed on as well which gives us good strength in the left back position too.

“We’re delighted Sean has agreed to extend his contract, it’s an opportunity for him to kick on next season and we’re really happy to have him on board.”
